Himachal gain 3 points, Hyd one as match ends in a draw
Hyderabad | Friday, Nov 6 2009 IST

Himachal Pradesh grabbed three points forcing a vital 22-run first innings lead as its four-day Ranji Trophy Super League A Group Cricket match against Hyderabad ended in a draw at Gymkhana Ground here today. Chasing 168 runs for an outright win after bowling Hyderabad out for 189 in their second innings, the visitors fell short of the target, managing 136 for 8 as the contest ended.

Former National champions, Hyderabad had to remain contended with one point from the match as they failed to bowl out the last Himachal batsmen even as left arm spinner Pragyan Ojha came with a fine spell of 5/52.

Hyderabad resumed their second knock today losing A T Rayudu off the second ball of the day at his overnight score of 42. The hosts were 101 for 4. Barring Ahmed Qudri's 46 from 85 balls with five and a six. Hyderabad were bundled out for 189 as seven batsmen could only add 88 runs. They succumbed to Himachal spinner Ashok Thakur who claimed 5 wickets for 22 runs. Himachal opener Bhavin Thakker led the hunt with a fine 55 from 82 balls with five fours and a first wicket partnership of 79 with Sangram Singh(27, 39 balls with three fours). The other batsmen managed to save the day. T Suman (2/26) also made a desparate bid to grab the last two Himachal wickets, but failed to give the host a spectacular victory.
