Indian Senior players in GVK AISTA Senior National

India's top senior tennis players would be locking horns in the Rs 5 lakh GVK AISTA Senior National Ranking Tennis Tournament, which will be played from November 8-12 at the PracTennis Courts at Hansraj Morarji Public School, Andheri(W) here. The event is being sponsored by G V K Group.

This is the third time such a tournament is being organised in Mumbai after the successful conduct of similar events in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Kolkata and Delhi. The players have been divided into three categories which is Men 45+, Men 55+ and Men 65+ and the singles winners stand to gain Rs 17,000 in each category.

The doubles winners in each category will win Rs 9,000. They event has generated a tremendous response from all over India, a release issued here today stated.

The singles main draw in each category will have 32 entries with 20 direct acceptances, 8 qualifiers and 4 wild cards. The doubles main draw will be for 16 entries with 10 direct acceptances, 4 qualifiers and 2 wild cards. The 45+ category has received 45 entries for the qualifying rounds, while the +55 category has received 51, with 42 players registering for the qualifying rounds in the +65 category. Leading the rakings in the +45 category is AP's R E Sudarshan Rao, who leads the rankings with 205 AISTA points. He is followed by Gujarat's Yogesh Shah, APs V Srinivasa Reddy and V Shankar from Delhi and in the +55 category, TNs S Settu leads the standings with 382 points, followed by AP's V Ram Mohan Rao with 210 points, A R Rao (AP) 129 points and Karnatakas Puskraj with 123. While in the +65 category, Maharashtra's S Parekh is the top seed with 392 points, followed by Karnatakas V R Kulkarni 241 and M Krishnaswamy 156 points and Tamil Nadus D Radhakrishnaan with 146 points, the release added.
