HC orders status quo
Chennai | Friday, Nov 6 2009 IST

Madras High Court today ordered status quo on a petition filed by seven persons to restrain Tamil Nadu Government from issuing pattas to some villagers for the land officially owned by them at Kaverirajapuram Village in Tiruvallur District but was allegedly grabbed by Karnataka High Court Chief Justice P D Dinakaran and his family.

When the petition filed by one Munirathinam Naidu and six others of the village came up for hearing before Ms Justice K Suguna, the judge ordered status quo.

Following this, Senior Advocate Vaigai, the counsel for the villagers, appeared before the judge in his chamber in the evening and submitted passing order of status quo in a Civil Suit without hearing the other side was against law. The Judge then directed her to submit her objection in the open court till which time she would sign the status quo order.

She posted the matter to November eight for hearing.

In the petition, Munirathinam and others submitted they were the sole owners of the disputed land measuring about 600 acre for several years and had patta in their name.

The district administration was making arrangements to issue pattas to some villagers on their demand that they grabbed government poromboke land.

"Following this, we produced original documents to Tiruvallur District Collector and urged him to entertain pleas to distribute the land under "two acre land" scheme,"the petitioners contended and added the Collector was issuing pattas to the land, hence, they moved the High Court.
