Pranahita Nat. Project, Polavaram, cabinet clearance sought: CM

Hours before his departure to New Delhi, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah today asked Union Water Resources Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal to include Dr B R Ambedkar Pranahita Chevalla Sujala Sravanti and Polavaram projects, as national projects for the development of drought prone and backward Telangana region in the state.

On the eve of his maiden visit to National Capital after assuming charge as Chief Minister, consequent to the death of Y S Rajasekhara Reddy in a copter crash on September 2, Mr Rosaiah also sought Mr Bansal's help for early clearance by the Union Cabinet for inclusion of Polavram project reminding him that the High Power Steering Committee has on August 6 this year recommended putting the project in the list of National projects.

In his letter to Mr Bansal, a copy of which was released to media here, the Chief Minister' drew the Union Ministry's October 8 letter to the State Government mentioning that the High Power Steering Committee in its meeting held on August six had recommended Polavaram project for inclusion in the list of National Project. ''I would like to thank Union Water Resources Ministry and request you to expedite approval of the Union cabinet to ensure completion of the project within the project period,'' the Chief Minister said. Both these projects were pet schemes of YSR.
