Chennai | Friday, Nov 6 2009 IST

About 30 Engineering girl students of the prestigious Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) at Chrompet, near here, escaped unhurt, when a fire broke out in their hostel.

The students were busy studying for the semester examinations, when an electric heater put up by a student who forgot to switch it off, burst into flames.

The students ran helter skelter as the fire started raging, before the fire service personnel from Tambaram station rushed in and put out the fire.
