Heavy rains in Tamil Nadu claim 13 lives
Chennai |Friday, 2009 7:35:06 PM IST

Heavy rains lashing Tamil Nadu for the past few days have thrown life out of gear in most parts of the state and claimed 13 lives.

Schools and colleges in many parts of Tamil Nadu remained closed Friday because of the rains.

Most of the deaths occurred because of wall and roof collapses in districts like Villupuram, Tirunelveli, Kanchipuram, Tiruchirapalli, Cuddalore and Madurai.

Weather officials have forecast heavy rains over the coastal regions of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for the next two days.

Fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea.
