TDP appeals for generous drought relief funds from Centre

The opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) today requested the Central team, assessing the damage caused by the drought in 981 mandals of 22 districts in Andhra Pradesh, to be generous in recommending a fat financial package to the state. In a memorandum to the team, it also urged the Centre to take short and long-term measures to tackle recurring drought conditions.

The TDP also demanded one-time loan waiver as farmers had lost all their investments due to withering of crops, increase input subsidy, provide insurance cover to all crops taking village as a unit, covering non-loanee farmers also.

The TDP also demanded comprehensive insurance covering the entire investment made by farmers, employment opportunities for artisans, increased rice allocation to the state at BPL rates, increased budgets for repair and maintenance of drinking water schemes, ensuring 12 hours of uninterrupted power to these schemes, fodder crops for the cattle, more allotments under NREGA programme to the state and increase in the period of employment to 250 days from 100 at present.
