India Bread to be costlier from Sunday
The prices of bread will go up between Rs 2 and Rs 2.40 with effect from November 8, the Joint Action Committee of West Bengal Bakers' Association today announced. For biscuits and cakes the price hike would be between 20 to 25 per cent with effect from same date. While 400 grams of sliced bread would cost Rs 12, up from Rs 10, the price for 200 grams would be Rs 6 and Rs 3.30 for 100 grams. That of plain bread is Rs 12, up from Rs 9.90, Rs 6 and Rs 3.20 respectively. The special milk bread of 400 grams would cost by Rs 13, up Rs 2 and Rs 6.50 for 200 grams. Disclosing the new prices of bread at a news conference, secretary of the association Idris Ali said the hike came after nearly three years following price escalation of raw materials. Mr Ali said prices of raw materials like sugar and maida besides, wood and packets had gone up from 35 per cent to 100 per cent but the association kept the recent hike to maximum of 25 per cent owing to mass consumption.
