Hyderabad | Friday, Nov 6 2009 IST

Union Home Minister P Chidambaram today said the Special Protection Group(SPG), providing security to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, should be sensitive to the problems of the common man while imposing restrictions. It may be recalled, one Sumit Verma(32) had died at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences(PGIMS) on Tuesday last due to delay in reaching (PGIMS) for treatment because of security restrictions for Dr Singh's visit.

Mr Chidambaram told reporters here it was unfortuate that the Sumit Verma could not get timely treatment due to security restrictions. ''The Prime Minister had already said what he had to say,'' he added.

The family of the deceased has demanded compensation and a job for the next of the kin, it may be recalled.
