India Yeddyurappa orders transfer of official to appease rebels
Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today ordered transfer of his Principal Secretary,V P Baligar, an IAS official, bowing to the demands of the rebels, who triggered a political crisis in the BJP's first government in a southern state. The rebels, whose main demand was replacement of the Chief Minister himself, had also demanded the transfer of the official V P Baligar and sacking of Rural Development Minister Shobha Karandlaje. They accused the two of interfering in the day to day affairs of the ministries headed by the rebel leaders. A government notification today said Mr Baligar had been transferred with immediate effect and posted until further orders as Principal Secretary Department of Commerce and Industries, replacing Mr Subir Hari Singh. Mr Singh was named as the new Development Commissioner for Bangalore city, in place of M R Sreenivasa Murthy. Mr L S N Prasad, presently the Chief Project Officer of Karnataka State Highways Improvement Project has been appointed as the new Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister in place of Mr Baligar. -- (UNI) -- 06MS11.xml
