Tripura police mulls to set up monitoring wings in other states
Agartala | Friday, Nov 6 2009 IST

The Tripura government is considering to set up police monitoring wings in few other states following intelligence inputs that some anti-social activists were extorting money from various organisations, based in other parts of the country, involved in development work. Official sources here today said reportedly, anti-social elements had been garnering funds form business agencies for past few months but recently, following police surveillance they were compelled to stop their activities in the state.

''The concerned agencies give in to the demands of the anti-social outfits and do not even report to the police because they do not want any disturbances,'' officials said, adding now payments were being made outside the state.

Police personnel in mufti would be deputed in some selected locations of the country where they would exclusively work on intelligence sharing.

Besides spreading intelligence network in neighbouring states, Tripura police would join the Northeast Regional Cooperation Mechanism (RCM) where police personnel of the eight states, the Central paramilitary forces and intelligence agencies would work in close coordination.

Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawans, meanwhile, arrested a hardcore NLFT militant yesterday during search operation at remote Wakiram Para in North Tripura and he was identified as Nirjoy Aslong.

Another NLFT(BM) extremist Jaharlal Debbarma (55) of Takarjala in West Tripura surrendered to police without arms last night.
