CBI registers corruption case gainst UGC Jt Secretary

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a corruption case against former Regional Director of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), who is now Joint Secretary of University Grants Commission (UGC).

A CBI press release here said the case against the former AICTE official was that she had entered into a criminal conspiracy with the Director of a private Institute of Science and Technology and gave grant of approval for a new Engineering college in Palakkad, without fulfilling the norms and standards, fixed by AICTE during 2008-09.

Ms Manju Singh, the former AICTE official had given the letter of approval for the private college after receiving illegal gratification.

The private institute, without the basic failities required for an Engineering college, admitted students for the year 2009-10, the release said.

The CBI conducted searches yesterday at the office and residential premises of Manju Singh and office and residential premises of O K Sreedharan, Chairman of Kollengode Educational Trust and Director of Palakkad Institute of Science and Technology, the release added.
