Ketamine worth Rs 30 cr seized
Chennai | Thursday, Nov 5 2009 IST

The Zonal unit of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized 300 kgs of Ketamine Hydochloride valued at Rs 30 crore in the International market at the Chennai Airport.

The consignment, sent by a Mumbai based Chemical dealer, was meant to be exported in the guise of Sodium Acetate Anhydride, when the DRI officials, acting on a tip off, seized the material and found it to be Ketamine Hydrochloride, an official release here said.

The material was sent to a city based consignee, but verfications revealed that the city based company had not placed any order for the said consignment.

Ketamine smuggling was being attempted frequently in small consignments through air route and this was the first time, a large quantity was attempted to be smuggled through air route, it said.
