India Senior DMK functionary dies
Senior DMK leader and party's women's wing Joint Secretary Vannai Devaki died of heart attack today. Ms Devaki, who had been with the DMK for the past four decades since the days of party founder and late Chief Minister C N Annadurai, was 67. A widow, she is survived by two sons and three daughters. Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin, Senior Ministers and host of party leaders paid their homage by placing wreaths on the body. A former councillor of Chennai Corporation, Ms Devaki had been one of DMK's powerful platform speakers. Expressing shock and grief, Mr Karunanidhi, in a condolence message, said Ms Devaki had dedicated her life to the party and there was not a single village in the state, where she did not address a party meeting. She had involved herself in the party at very young age and never created any problem to the party headquarters, he said and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family and the women's wing. -- (UNI) -- 05MS37.xml
