Managing editor of India TV deposes before Justice Tahaliyani
Mumbai | Thursday, Nov 5 2009 IST

Vinod Kapari, Managing Editor of private news channel India TV, today told designated court, conducting the trial of 26/11 terror attacks case, that his channel had aired live conversation between a reporter and terrorists from Hotel Oberoi and Nariman House, respectively. Mr Kapari said the channel had aired a number -- 9350593505 for its viewers to give them any information they had regarding the terrorists during the 26/11 attacks. He said at around 0830 hours on November 27, last year, a person, who identified himself as Fahadullah, claimed that he was a militant calling from Hotel Oberoi. ''One of our staff members kept the terrorist busy with talks while our editorial team held an emergency meeting to decide whether to air the talk or not,'' Mr Kapari told Justice M L Tahaliyani.

After the meeting, the channel aired the live talk between the terrorist and the reporter, who asked them about their motive behind the attack and demand for releasing the hostages. The second call came at around 1600 hours on the same day from Nariman House on the same number. The terrorist had disclosed his name as Imran Babar. He also made similar demands as Fahadullah in the morning. He said when the reporter told the terrorist that they were cordoned off by National Security Guard (NSG) commandos and asked why they were not surrendering, Imran Babar had replied: ''We have came for an encounter, we are not going to surrender. You must have seen what is happening in Mumbai and see what is going to happen.'' Earlier, conversation between the terrorist and their handler in Pakistan was recorded by the court.
