BJP, JD(U) to jointly face Jharkhand Assy polls

A day after jettisoning electoral alliance, the BJP and the Janata Dal(United) today said the parties had now agreed to jointly face the coming Jharkhand Assembly polls.

Under the new agreement hammered out at JD(U) president Sharad Yadav's residence this noon, the parties said the BJP would contest 67 seats, while the JD(U) 14 seats in the 81 member House. The Election Commission has announced five phase polling in the state from November 25. Addressing a joint news conference at BJP President Rajnath Singh's residence, both the party presidents announced the constituencies agreed upon by the two parties where they would contest. Claiming that the BJP-JD(U) coalition was sure to get the people's mandate in the polls, they said corruption would be an issue in Jharkhand, where people were fed up, and loot of the state continued unabated during the Madhu Koda Government supported by UPA parties(Congress-RJD) and Shibu Soren government. Mr Yadav said natural resources of the state - water, forests and land (jal, jangal aur zameen) were systematically looted by the previous regime and it would figure prominently during the poll campaign. The elections would be fought collectively without projecting any leader as the prospective Chief Ministerial candidate, he said.
