India TRS to focus on Statehood, boycott civic polls
Getting ready for a ''do-or-die battle'' over separate Telangana issue later this month, Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) President K Chandrasekar Rao today announced the party would not contest the November 23 Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Elections. Addressing a press conference here, Mr Rao said achieving statehood for Telangana was the immediate goal before the party and not the civic polls in the State Capital. Prior to his fast-unto-death protest in the last week of November, he would visit New Delhi next week to impress upon President Pratibha Patil, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha L K Advani, among others, on the need for formation of Telangana State, he said. The party would hold 10,000 to 15,000 meetings all over Telangana to prepare the Telanganites for the ''do-or-die'' battle, he added. Government employees in the Telangana Region would also resort to protests to press the Statehood demand, he added. -- (UNI) -- 05MS22.xml
