Cabinet approves Revised Budget of Organising Committee CWG
New Delhi | Thursday, Nov 5 2009 IST

The Union Cabinet today approved the revised budget from Rs 767 crore to Rs 1,620 crore for the October 2010 Commonwealth Games in the national capital.

The Cabinet considered the proposal sent to it by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MYAS) for providing a revised budget of Rs 1,620 crore, as loan to the Organising Committee (OC) Commonwealth Games, 2010, at the prevailing government rate of interest, for organising the games.

The factors that have contributed to increase in the amounts proposed in the revised estimates included new items like accreditation, City Operations, Sponsorship and T V Rights, Security, Sustainability & Environment, and Ticketing. The authorities had pointed out that these were essential for the successful delivery of the Games, but were not provided in the initial budget of the OC. Besides cost escalation, it was pointed out that there was increase in number of days of Queen's Baton Relay, international leg from 136 days to 240 day and Domestic leg from 60 days to 100 days and increase in the number of Volunteers by nearly 30,000.
