19th Asian Table Tennis Champ in Lucknow from Nov 16

After a gap of 17 years, India would hold the 19th Asian Table Tennis Championship in Lucknow from November 16 to 22.

Over 350 players both in the men and women section from 24 countries of Asia, with top seeded from China would be participating in this six-day international tourney, to be held third time in the country. Earlier, the championship was held in Kolkata in 1980 and in New Delhi in 1992.

The event will be hosted by the UP Table tennis Association of India under the auspices of Table Tennis Federation of India. This championship is being held in a run-up for the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth games and it would be first international TT event at Badminton Academy in the posh Gomti Nagar area in the city of Nawabs.

Addressing a press conference here today, organising committee chairman and union labour secretary Prabhat C Chaturvedi said all top ranked players of the world have already confirmed their participation.

Top notch players of the world, including players from China, Japan, Hongkong, Singapore, Korea, Chinese Taipei, DPR Korea, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Thailand, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Kazhakistan, Jordan, Laos, Macau, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and host India will participate for seven titles to be at stake.

Prominent players of the world to be seen in action include World Number two Ma Long and Guo Yue both from China in the mens and women section respectively.
