CCEA clears MSP for rabi crops; Wheat MSP at Rs 1,100 per quintal

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today fixed the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for Rabi crops of 2009-10 season to be marketted in 2010-11, with the MSP for wheat being finalised at Rs 1,100 per quintal which is an increase of Rs 20 per quintal over the last year's MSP.

Briefing newspersons here on the outcome of the CCEA decisions, Home Minister P Chidambaram said the MSP for barley has been fixed at Rs 750 per quintal, which is an increase of Rs 70 per quintal than last year's level.

The MSP for Gram has been fixed at Rs 1,760 per quintal, which is Rs 30 more than last year's price. The MSP of Safflower has been fixed at Rs 1680 per quintal, marking an increase of Rs 30 per quintal over the last year's MSP. Mr Chidambaram said the MSP of other Rabi crops remains unchanged at the last year's level. These are 'Masur' (Lentil) at Rs 1,870 per quintal and Rapeseed and Mustard at Rs 1,830 per quintal.

The Minister said the CCEA has accepted the recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices with regard to Rabi crops.
