India K'taka govt supercedes Wak Board following irregularities
Karnataka government today superceded the State Wakf Board following irregularities in the functioning detected by the Corps of Detectives(CoD) Investigation. Senior IPS Officer M A Salim has been appointed to look after the affairs of the Board and he would take charge tomorrow. The Minister for Wakf, Mumtaz Ali Khan, in a statement here yesterday said, an explanation had been sought from the Board, after listing out ten charges against it. As the replies given by it were found unsatisfactory, a decision was taken to dissolve the Board, Dr Khan added. The CoD investigation revealed that of the ten charges levelled against the Board, eight had been proved. Necessary steps were taken to protect the assets of the Board. The Minister said the Wakf Board had entered into a compromise with an individual for disposing off 2.34 acre of the Wakf property near Lal Bagh in the city for Rs one crore, though the concerned person was involved in a dispute with the Board and that case was pending in the Supreme Court. The Wakf Board should have taken steps to protect its property, instead of assisting an unknown person to gain control over its assets, he added.
