BJP clinches deal with JD(U) in Jharkhand
New Delhi | Thursday, Nov 5 2009 IST

The BJP today managed to clinch a deal with Janata Dal(United), its NDA ally in Jharkhand notwithstanding yesterday's break up. The BJP has now agreed to part with 14 seats for the JD(U) and scaled down its number to 67, BJP Vice President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, who revived the discussions with the JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav, said. The JD(U) had even announced that it would contest on its own on 22 seats, but the BJP persuaded its NDA ally to relent and agree for a joint contest.

A formal announcement is expected to be made by the presidents of the two parties at 1500 hrs. The Assembly elections in Jharkhand are scheduled to be held in five phases, commencing from November 25.
