New Delhi | Thursday, Nov 5 2009 IST

The annual rate of inflation for primary articles for the week ended October 24, 2009, rose to 8.94 per cent from a year earlier. In the previous week ended October 17, 2009, it was 8.67 per cent.

As per the new method decided by the government to monitor the wholesale price movement, the index of 'Primary Articles' group declined by 0.1 per cent whereas the index for 'Fuel, Power, Lights and Lubricants' group remained unchanged. As per the decision of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, the weekly wholesale price index (WPI) data will cover only primary articles and commodities in the broad group 'fuel, power, light and lubricants', an official statement said here today.

The monthly price index covering all commodities for October would be released on November 12, it added.
