Bardhan condemns Haryana govt for arresting Gurudas Dasgupta

Communist Party of India General Secretary A B Bardhan today condemned the Haryana government for the arrest of AITUC General Secretary and MP Gurudas Dasgupta on the Gurgaon border while he was on the way to address striking RICO workers to bring about a settlement with the management.

Mr Dasgupta was on the way to address the RICO workers on strike in order to bring about a settlement when he was arrested by the Haryana police. ''This high-handed act of the Haryana government and its police constitutes a gross intervention in the legitimate Trade Union activities. Besides, it also comes in the way of settlement of the stalemate,''Mr Bardhan told UNI here.

Earlier, AITUC Secretary Kshetra Panda told UNI here that the government had violated the law by arresting the veteran CPI leader. ''It should be noted that not a single law had been breached nor any prohibitory order violated. In fact, this action was frustrating the bright chances of settlement,'' Mr Panda said. He demanded that the leader be released as soon as possible so that the workers' settlement could be reached.
