India Dhawan's double ton puts Delhi in command against Vadodara
A superb double century by Shikhar Dhawan put Delhi in commanding position being bowled out for a massive 591 runs on the second day of the four day Ranji Trophy Super League Group B match against Vadodara here today. At close of play on the second day, Vadodara had replied with 21 for no loss with Connor Williams on 9 and Satyajit Parab on 10 at the crease. Delhi, resuming their innings on 300 for two, lost overnight batsman Rajat Bhatia early for 78 after the batsman had added just 8 runs to his overnight score giving a tame return catch to A Argal with the Delhi total reading 308 for three. However, Shikhar Dhawan found another willing partner in Mayank Tehlan and the duo put on 119 runs for the fourth wicket before Tehlan was dimissed for 55 being caught by R Solanki of off spinner Yusuf Pathan with the score reading 427 for four. Dhawan continued to torment the host bowlers, playing with ease on both sides of the wicket, adding another 73 runs for the fifth wicket with Yogesh Nagar before the opener fell for a brilliant 224 being caught by S Parab for part time off spinner Jacob Martin. His knock came in a stay of 638 minutes and faced 413 balls with 23 fours and two huge sixes. After the fall of Dhawan, Y Nagar helped himself to an half century making 55 before the lower order fell to the spin combination of Yusuf Pathan and R Solanki both taking three wickets a piece as Delhi ended their innings on 591. The Vadodara openers Satyajit Parab and Connor Williams then took the home side to close of play without losing their wickets as they survived nine overs to end the second day on 21 for no loss.
