India Govt to showcause owners of old vehicles
The state government would showcause the owners of more than 15-years old vehicles for failing to apply for replacement, Transport Minister Ranjit Kundu said today. The Minister told reporters at Writers' Buildings that the owners of such vehicles would be given 15-day time for reply and necessary action would be taken in the event of 'unsatisfactory answers.' '' If the owners of old vehicles fail to abide by the court order in all respects, such vehicles will be scrapped, '' Mr Kundu said. Calcutta High Court in its recent order had maintained that all vehicles, more than 15-year-old, would no longer ply on city roads. Mr Kundu informed that 1200 big bus owners were likely to be showcaused while the government was in possession of 1278 applications from such owners for replacement. He said owners of 557 old mini buses had applied for replacement as 100 such owners failed to comply with. Referring to old autos and taxis, Mr Kundu said 23000 and 4800 applications had been received from owners of such old vehicles respectively for replacement as 6616 green autos and 1657 green taxis had already hit city streets. -- (UNI) -- 04CA48.xml
