Lawyers to abstain from court in K'taka on Nov 9
Bangalore | Wednesday, Nov 4 2009 IST

Members of the Bangalore Advocates Association today decided to abstain from court proceedings on November 9 demanding Karnataka High Court Chief Justice P D Dinakaran not to attend the court till he was discharged of allegations against him.

Association President K H Puttegowda told UNI a resolution to this effect was passed at a meeting held here this afternoon.

He said the Supreme Court Colligeum's decision to withhold elevation of Justice Dinakaran pending inquiry into allegations itself showed there was prima facie case. ''And since he is a tainted Judge till he is cleared of allegations, we oppose Chief Justice Dinakaran attending court on moral ground,'' he added.

Mr Gowda said on Monday, Advocates would abstain from proceedings of Civil Courts, Magisterial Courts and Tribunals.

''We have also appealed to District Bar Associations to support the boycott call and abstain from court proceedings on that day,'' Mr Gowda added.

There were, however, some divergent voices with some members of the SC/ST Lawyers Association opposed to the boycott move. But, in the end, this association also supported the lawyers associations' move.
