I will take oath in Hindi: Azmi
Mumbai | Wednesday, Nov 4 2009 IST

Ignoring Maharashtra Navnirman Sena Chief Raj Thackeray's diktat for legislators to take oath only in Marathi, Samajwadi Party's city unit president and newly-elected MLA Abu Asim Azmi today asserted that he would take oath in the national language Hindi.

During a function of the Party recently, Mr Thackeray had said, ''All the legislators must take oath only in Marathi, otherwise my 13 legislators will show what they can do.'' Speaking to mediapersons here, Mr Azmi said, ''It is my privilege to take oath in one of the Indian languages and Hindi is our national language.'' Coming down heavily on Mr Thackeray, Mr Azmi said, ''Raj always disrespects the national language.'' He said he had asked the Vidhan Bhavan to provide him with the documents of functioning of the legislature in Hindi as he cannot understand Marathi, but has not got reply on the same.
