Say ''Vande Mataram'' or leave India: Uddhav
Mumbai | Wednesday, Nov 4 2009 IST

Infuriated over the fatwa issued against the national song by Jamait Ulema-E-Hind, Shiv Sena executive chief Uddhav Thackeray today said people who do not wish to pay respect to Mother India and sing ''Vande Mataram'' should go to Pakistan, Bangladesh, as there is no place for such people in India.

Reacting strongly against the ban issued by the Muslim organisation in Deoband, Mr Thackeray, in a statement, said, ''Muslims opposed Vande Mataram in front of Home Minister P Chidambaram, and the government appeased them. There is no future to the nation if Muslims pass anti-India orders in front of the Union Home Minister.'' He said, ''Whatever Congress says, 'Vande Mataram' is not mere words; it inspires patriotism. Is there any shame in bowing before Mother India? Those who do not want to pay respect to Mother India, should go to Pakistan, Bangladesh. There is no place for such traitors in India!'' ''We haven't got independence for such people. 'Vande Mataram' will be sung in this nation. Shiv Sainiks will place boards carrying 'Vande Mataram' across Maharashtra,'' Mr Thackeray said, adding that such orders by Muslims causes communal hatred.
