ICSI convention Nov 5

The Institute of Company Secretaries of India(ICSI) will hold its three-day 37th National Convention of Company Secretaries on the theme ''Lead Corporate India - Role of Company Secretary'' from tomorrow, when a web-based e-learning module for Executive Programme will be launched to expand its reach to remote areas in the country.

The Convention seeks to make an indepth analysis of the theme by deliberating on it in four Technical Sessions -- Managing Growth in Turbulent Times, Integrity, Ethics and Governance, Best Practices in Financial /Non-Financial Disclosures and Lead The Market under Competition Regime -- in the backdrop of 'Satyam Scam', according to ICSI President D H Raju.

The Institute has launched web-based e-learning programme for the CS Foundation Programme to spread the reach of CS courses to remote areas and smaller towns. As the response from the students have been encouraging, a video based E-Learning Modules for Executive Programme will be launched at the National Convention. The ICSI and IGNOU had signed an MOU to launch specialised B.Com course and M Com in Business Policy and Corporate Governance, exclusively for students of Company Secretaryship and members of the ICSI. IGNOU has also joined hand with ICSI for getting expert support in diversifying their Post Graduate Diploma Course in Corporate Governance and recognised ICSI as Knowledge Partner. Union Minister of State for Corporate Affairs Salman Khurshid will inaugurate the National Convention tomorrow. A special session on ''International Perspective'' will be held on November six wherein representatives of Company Secretaries Institutes from other countries will participate . On November seven, a special session on Companies Bill 2009 will be addressed by Ms Renuka Kumar, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Konijeti Rosaiah will deliver the valedictory address. Around 1200 delegates, including Company Secretaries and Managing Directors were expected to participate.

The convention will be addressed by captains of trade and industry among others.
