Students brush with elan with eye on Limca Record
Chennai | Wednesday, Nov 4 2009 IST

In a bid to enter the Limca Book of Records, 2,500 students of a private school painted on glass in a span of 60 minutes.

Titled "Mega Glass Art", the show was organised by the Velammal School of Fine Arts, the art and culture arm of the Velammal Group of Institutions, in association with Pidilite Industries Limited. The creative skills of the students, who were trained for over a week by School Master and Painter S Palanivelu and experts from Pidilite Industries, came to the fore as they painted flowers of various hues and sizes besides fishes and animals.

''They were allowed to paint whatever they wanted. All the 2,500 boys and girls, studying standard three to 12, assembled under one roof at the school ground and worked on the paintings in a span of 60 minutes,'' School Correspondent M V M Velmohan said. ''We wanted to create a record of 2,500 students getting involved in glass painting at one go in a span of an hour and the students rose to the occasion by exhibiting their painting skills,'' he said.

The previous record was held by a school in India for ordinary painting done by 2,100 students. 'This was for the first time a record using glass painting is being set,'' he claimed.

Tamil Nadu Government College of Fine Arts Principal Manoharan, in his speech, spoke about the nuances of arts and apintings.

A panel of judges headed by Mr V V R Murty from the Limca Book of Records witnessed the mammoth event along with Renowned Artist Veerasanthanam and Popular Kollywood Comedian Karunaas.
