India FIR against Azhar, Union Minister for violating election norms
Former Indian cricket team captain Mohammad Azharuddin was booked for playing cricket. It may sound strange but Azhar, the Congress MP from Moradabad, along with Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways R P N Singh had been charged with violating the election code of conduct in this eastern Uttar Pradesh district. They played cricket match at the grounds of the Udit Naraynan College without obtaining permission from the district administration during the election campaign for the Congress candidate in November 7 bypoll at Padrauna Assmebly seat yesterday. Their act amounted to violation of election code of conduct hence an FIR was registered against them late last evening, Superintendent of Police Luv Kumar told UNI here this afternoon. Both the Congress leaders had been booked under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), he added. The Padrauna Assembly seat in Kushinagar district fell vacant when Singh, who was the legislator from it, resigned after winning the Kushinagar Lok Sabha seat. Mohini Devi is the Congress candidate for the Padrauna Assembly seat. Another case of violation of election code of conduct was registerd against the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party MP from Deoria Goraknath Jaiswal at Kasya police station, the SP informed.
