India Raj Babbar challenging Mulayam's daughter-in-law in bypoll
It is a ''do-or-die'' electoral battle for the Samajwadi Party and the Congress with a lot in stake for Mulayam Singh Yadav whose daughter-in-law Dimple Yadav is seeking her maiden entry into the Lok Sabha pitted against former SP leader Raj Babbar as the Congress nominee. Though it looks like a direct contest between Mr Babbar, the Bollywood star-turned-politician and political novice Ms Yadav for the November 7 bypoll, the ruling BSP candidate S P Singh Baghel could throw a spanner in the works by snatching a large section of the Dalit vote bank. Both the Congress and the SP have turned electioneering in the constituency as ''star wars'' with hordes of Bollywood actors campaigning for both the candidates. The Congress and the SP based their campaigning on ''road shows'' to cover most of the area in the constituency. Interestingly, both the Congress and BSP candidates are old friends of Mulayam Singh Yadav and were with the party till recently. Mr Babbar was the SP MP from Agra in the previous Lok Sabha while S P Singh Baghel had won Jalesar seat on the SP ticket three times in a row since 1999. -- (UNI) -- 04DR12.xml
