Bengal Govt to fund cricketer Avik's treatment

West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today assured financial help for further treatment of injured cricketer Avik Choudhury. Sripathy Choudhury, father of the allrounder, today said he had called on the Chief Minister's Confidential Secretary Jaideep Mukherjee at Writers' Buildings and was assured financial help for futher treatment of his son. He was accompanied by his wife.

The senior Chowdhury told reporters that he was assured of financial help from the Chief Minister's office after apprising it of the latest situation of his son, now undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital.

The Chief Minister recently visited the hospital and assured of whatever possible the government could extend for the treatment of the injured cricketer.

He said the medics at the hospital said Avik's treatment was over here and needed to tranfer to New Delhi for further investigation of his injured spine.

The 24-year-old Bengal cricketer broke his ribs, backbones and cut in spine after a car crash at Eastern Byepass in middle of October.

Sripahty Choudhury said he was also getting monetary help from CAB and state Sports Ministry for treatment. He said Avik needed at least six months treatment in New Delhi.

Apollo Gleneagles medic Arijit Basu today said Avik was well and the condition of his legs was gradually improving. He said the cricketer needed spinal rehabilitation. He said the cricketer would be released by this weekend.

Initially Avik was admitted to Ruby Hospital and later was transferred at Apollo Gleneagles and underwent operation.
