Agarwal Eye Hospitals opens Retina Foundation in Chennai

A foundation, aimed at providing quality treatment for retinal problems, was launched by Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin here today.

''The Retina Foundation was set up by the leading chain of Eye Hospitals, Dr Agarwal Eye Hospitals, in the city.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Stalin said Tamil Nadu has become a global hub in the field of eye treatment.

Pointing out to the State Government's efforts in providing quality eye care, he said during a screening camp for school students of sixth, seventh and eighth standards, 24 lakh students were screened and around two lakh of them were found to be suffering from eye problems.

The government had spent Rs 5.35 crore to provide spectacles to them. ''The Deputy Chief Minister said Dr Agarwal's Eye Hospital had been constantly striving to improve the quality of life of individuals by bringing out new medical techniques and treatment procedures in the field of ophthalmology keeping the interest of common man in mind. Hospital Managing Director Amar Agarwal said the aim of the new centre was to provide modern diagnostic and treatment facilities of highest quality. Stating diabetes, hypertension and renal diseases could affect the retina, resulting in decreased vision, he said the foundation would cater to the needs of these patients.
