India PRP preparing to fight civic polls on its own
After the abortive bid to tie up with the ruling Congress for the November 23 civic polls in the State Capital, the fledgling Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) has decided to fight the elections on its own. "We have shortlisted three to four candidates in each of the 150 wards going to polls. Party President P Chiranjeevi will finalise the list by tomorrow,'' Senior Party Leaders D Shravan, Vanga Geeta and Gowtham told reporters. They took strong objection to some Congress leaders suggesting the PRP merge with the Congress Party. "The party made a rethinking after internal squabbles within the ruling party came to the fore," they said. "We have a popular leader in Chiranjeevi and the party is committed to usher in a social change. The PRP is not craving for power. We will prove our strength in the coming polls and relentlessly work for the people's welfare at the grassroots level," they added. They also objected to some Congress activists burning the effigy of Mr Chiranjeevi following reports on talks between the two parties on possibility of forging ties. -- (UNI) -- 03MS31.xml
