KVL to give boost to volleyball
Kochi | Tuesday, Nov 3 2009 IST

SportzConsult in collaboration with the Kerala State Volleyball Association launched the Kerala Volleyball League (KVL), a professional volleyball tournament, which has superstar Mammootty as the brand ambassador. All top professional volleyball players would be part of the tournament scheduled in Kozhikode from February 20 to 28, 2010. Addressing a press conference here last night, SportzConsult CEO Jitendra Joshi said '' We are extremely excited to be associated with this one of its kind initiative, which will take volleyball as a sports to the next level in this country.'' The League as a powerful platform would not only do everything to revitalize and popularise the sport but it would also function as a catalyst in attracting and nurturing young talent which would go a long way in shaping the future of Indian volleyball, he added. '' Sports and entertainment always go hand in hand and KVL will definitely become the next big blockbuster of Kerala,'' Mr Mammootty said. The KVL will be the premier volleyball league in the country and will have six team franchises that will be auctioned to the highest bidder. All teams will play one another in a round robin format over a period of nine days. Each team will have a combination of players from Kerala, outside Kerala and the junior team. The matches will be telecast live on a top GEC with viewership across Kerala, India and Middle East.

Speaking on the occasion, Kerala State Volleyball Association President Charly Jacob said '' It is time that volleyball received the attention it deserves. KVL will bring back the lost glory to the game not only in the state of Kerala, but all of India, and hence do justice to this beautiful game. KVL will create an ecosystem that will benefit the players, coaches and fans of the game and it will help in the development of sports in Kerala,'' he said.
