Special stamp released hailing Apollo Hospitals contribution
Chennai | Tuesday, Nov 3 2009 IST

Apollo Hospitals has received a rare honour when a special postage stamp was released in recognition of its contribution to health care in the country.

At a glittering function in a star hotel here last evening, Union Communications and IT Minister A Raja released the postage stamp. Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin received the first stamp. This was for the first time in India's medical history that a postage stamp was received in honour of a Corporate hospital.

Lauding the hospital for the services rendered by it for the last 25 years, Mr Raja said Apollo was the only hospital to receive such honour from the Government.

Over the last 25 years, the hospital had grown in stature and has been leading by example for other healthcare providers in the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Stalin showered encomiums on the hospital for its commitment in health care and setting high standards in providing quality treatment with state-of-the-art facilities and equipments. Pointing out Apollo's participation in state government programmes, Mr Stalin said the hospital was part of the Kalaignar Insurance Programme for lifesaving treatment. Apollo founder Dr Prathap C Reddy appealed to the state government to extend support in offering treatment through Indian systems of medicine as well with less toxic and expensive cures.
