India Buddhadeb to visit Midnapore on Nov 7 to review law and order
West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee will visit Midnapore district, hit by Maoist activities, on November 7 to review the law and order situation. During his two-day stay in the district, the Chief Minister will inspect the progress of the developmental works in East and West Midnapore districts. This was disclosed to mediapersons today by Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen at the state Secretariat after a high-level meeting chaired by Mr Bhattacharjee. Chief Secretary Ashok Mohan Chakraborty, DGP Bhupinder Singh, IG (Law and Order) Raj Kanojia and other senior officials were also present at the meeting. '' The administration is worried about the law and order situation in West Midnapore and the adjoining areas and six companies of CRPF will be deployed within a day or two in Jungle Mahal,'' Mr Sen observed. The Bhubaneswar-Delhi-Rajdhani Express, along with 667 passengers, was detained for five hours by Maoist sympathiser Peoples Committee against Police Atrocities (PCPA) near Jhargram in West Midnapore on October 27 and the Officer-in-Charge of Sankrail police station, also in West Midnapore, was abducted by Maoists after gunning down two of his colleagues on October 20. Mr Sen told reporters that besides Midnapore, the meeting also discussed the law and order situation in Purulia and Bankura. He said the meeting approved strengthening of security in 10 blocks of Jungle Mahal with a focus on government employees and assessed the performances of the joint force in the Lalgarh region. To a query on whether activists of other political parties, besides Maoists, were also seen carrying arms in Jungle Mahal, he said, '' The government will take steps subject to specific allegations.'' -- (UNI) -- 02CA41.xml
