India MK allots Rs 12 cr for Lankan Tamil refugees
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today announced allocation of Rs 12 crore to improve basic amenities in 115 Sri Lankan Tamil Refugee Camps in the State and directed his Ministerial Colleagues to visit the camps and submit a report on the prevailing conditions there by November ten. Mr Karunanidhi made the announcement after chairing a high-level emergency meeting at the State Secretariat here after a magazine published an article on the appalling conditions in the camps with photographs. Briefing reporters after the meeting, Backward Classes Minister K K S S R Ramachandran, who is in charge of refugee camps,said the Chief Minister directed the Ministers and District Collectors to visit all the camps, get a first-hand account of the prevailing conditions and submit a detailed report to the government by November ten.
