India Buddhadeb leader of both Marxists and Maoists: Mamata
In a quick counter attack against Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee's charge that her party was hand-in-glove with the underground Maoists, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee today demanded that the CPI(M) be banned for 'carrying out armed operation' against political opponents. Levelling almost the similar charge that the Marxists had made against her party, she described the CPI(M) and the Maoists as two sides of the same coin and alleged that the Chief Minister was the leader of the both. ''The CPI(M) cadres are carrying out armed operation. The Moists are also doing the same. When Maoists are banned why should the CPI(M) be not ?'' she asked at a press conference. ''The Maoists and Marxists are opposite sides of the same coin. The Chief Minister is the leader of both Maoists and Marxists,'' she said. Referring to the suspected abduction of two police constables, Kanchan Garai and Sabir Ali Mullah from Lalgarh on July 30, Ms Banerjee questioned how could they go missing. ''Was it not Buddhadebbabu's duty to inform their families about what happened to them?'' she asked. She alleged CPI(M) activists had killed 69 Trinamool workers across the state over the last two months. ''Many more Trinamool workers are still missing after they were taken away by the CPI(M). I have reports that they have been beaten to death and their body thrown into rivers. There is no rule of law in the state,'' she said. Ms Banerjee, who has been accusing the CPI(M) of carrying out violence in the state, already demanded the Centre for dismissing the State Government under Article 356. Yesterday and the day before, Mr Bhattacherjee lamblasted the Trinamool Congress allegedly for being in complicity with Maoists in the state, carrying out widespread violence and murders in a bid to 'finish off' the CPI(M). He also questioned why the Railways did not name the Maoists in the FIR lodged in connection with the October 27 Rajdhani Express hijack drama, and alleged that the Trinamool Congress had an understanding with the Maoists to dislodge the Left Front government. A Maoist-backed tribal organisation had held up the Delhi-bound Bhubaneswar Rajdhani Express for over four hours at Banstala halt in Midnapore district, demanding withdrawal of the joint security forces fighting the ultras in the Lalgarh area of West Midnapore district and the release of People's Committee against Police Atrocities leader Chhatradhar Mahato she said. -- (UNI) -- 01CA36.xml
