India NG Channel movement against use of plastic in B'lore
National Geographic Societys today launched an initiative to eliminate use of plastic bags in the city. The campaign, Say No To Plastic, Bring Your Own Bag, was aimed at highlighting the negative environmental impact of plastic bag usage and encouraging shoppers and shopkeepers to switch to eco-friendly alternatives. It was expected that people would embrace the movement and reject the use of plastic bags. ''We will spread awareness on the harmful effects of plastic on the environment and how people need to start finding alternatives to plastic and start carrying their own bags, Mr Rajesh Sheshadri, Senior Vice President, Content and Communication, NG Channel said. As part of the campaign, one of the citys busiest shopping destinations, Commercial Street, will be 'over run' with eco-friendly cloth bags for ten days from tomorrow.
