Stamp on Matinee Idol Rajkumar

A commemorative stamp on legendary Kannada Cinema Actor Rajkumar was released by the India Posts here today.

Priced at Rs five, the stamps would be available sy all the post offices in Karnataka from November three, Chief Post Master General of State Circle M P Rajan today said.

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa who released the stamp at Vidhana Soudha said Rajkumar remained evergreen in the minds of people of Karnataka and the government would hold more programmes to highlight his achievements.

He said construction of the first phase of the memorial to the film doyen on the outskirts of the city had been completed and work on the second phase would be taken up soon.

Mr Rajan said, ''We have so far released 40 stamps of personalities belonging to Karnataka,'' he said.

An exhibition featuring the art and culture of the State is being organised by the Department in the city, Mangalore, Dharwad and Mysore to mark the release of the stamp.

In the city, an exhibition would be organised in the General Post Office between November three and ten. Memorabilia like t-shirts, key chains and caps would be sold at the GPO during the event, Mr Rajan added.
