Tension as cops chase away 'beach cricketers'

Tension prevailed at the famous MarinaBeach, one of the preferred places for locals to play cricket during weekends, for some time, when police tried to chase away those playing the game on the inner road.

Hundreds of youth from the area and nearby localis used to frequent the beach for playing cricket during weekends.

Police have recently enforced a ban on playing cricket following complaints of inconvenience from Beach Walkers Association.

When police tried to chase a group of people playing cricket, the agitated youths hit the streets and staged a road blockade on the Kamarajar Salai.

Senior police officials rushed to the spot and pacified the agitators.
