India Manna Dey feted in city after winning Phalke award
Music maestro Manna Dey, recently awarded with the Dada Saheb Phalke Award, was today felicitated in a grand manner at a public function in the city. Former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan, former West Bengal Chief Minister Siddhartha Sankar Ray felicitated the living legend who visited the city after receiving the Phalke award on October 19. Mr Chatterjee presented the maestro with a shawl and a certificate. The legendary singer crooned a few of his popular Hindi songs like 'Zindegi Kaesi Hai Paheli Hain', 'Ae Meri Zohrazabi', 'Laaga Chunari Mein Daag' and Bengali evergreen numbers like 'Shey Aamar Chhoto Bon', 'Coffee House er Shei Adda ta', 'Jibone Ki Pabona Bhulechhi Shey Bhabona', 'Hoeto Tomari Jonno' and 'Oi Maha Sindhur Opar Theke'. Manna Dey, considered to be one of the greatest playback singers of his time, dominated the Indian playback music scene from 1950s to 80s.
