TN cabinet discusses various issues, including Mullaperiyar
Chennai | Saturday, Oct 31 2009 IST

The Tamil Nadu Cabinet met here this evening and discussed various issues, including the contentious Mullaperiyar issue and the Madras High Court verdict on the February 19 violent clash between the police and the advocates in the court campus.

The cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, was held at the State Secretariat and lasted an hour.

The cabinet was believed to have discussed about the High Court judgement, asking the State Government to exercise its discretionary powers by placing under suspension four senior police officials, including the then City Commissioner and now ADGP K Radhakrishnan, in connection with the bloody clash at the Court campus, for an unbiased probe by the CBI. The Court had also asked the Government to initiate discplinary proceedings against the four police officials.

The present situation on the Mullaiperiyar dam issue with Kerala and various other schemes, being implemented by the State Government, including the recently launched Chief Minister Kalaignar's Medical Insurance Scheme for the poor, came up for discussions during the meeting.

The winter session of the State Assembly, scheduled to be held next month, also came up for discussions during the meeting.
