India Bengal remembers Indira Gandhi on her 25th martyrdom
Bengal today remembered the martyrdom of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi as she fell to bullets on this day twenty-five years ago, fighting separatists to defend a united India. Union Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor took the lead in invoking the contribution of country's first and only woman Prime Minister and called upon the people to carry on fighting against terrorism and anti-national forces. At a main function at Congress party's main office here Mr Tharoor, state unit's working president Pradip Bhattacharjee, senior leader Subrata Mukherjee and score of party functionaries placed the wreath at the protrait of Indira Gandhi. Mr Tharoor said their former Prime Minister took myrtyrdom to defend India against terrorism and separatist forces. He called upon the countrymen to take her fight forward as the country was still facing the scar of terrorism from inside and outside forces.
