India 'ICC delegation inspects Eden Gardens, venue of World Cup 2011
A high-level ICC delegation headed by former Australian spinner Tim May today made an on-the-spot study of Eden Gardens, which will host four matches of the 2011 World Cup. The 13 International Cricket Council's team visited nearly all possible spots of the stadium, which can accomodate an estimated 100,000 people, the only such playing arena of this cricket crazy nation. The ICC members visited Eden Gardens' galleries, now undergoing renovation in phases, pitch condition, flood lights arrangement, media box, score board, possible security position, entry and exits and all other technical requirment to host such major event, once in four-year. Former Australian off-spinner and FICA chief May, Kiwi curator Andy Atkinson, ICC event manager Chris Tetley, John Rhode (security officer), Eugene Van(stadium consultant), Aarti Singh Dabas (media rights braodcast officer), Sami ul-Hasan(media officer) Remus D'Cruz (accounts officer) and officials of Cricket Association of Bengal among others were in the inspection team. They are also expected to visit Jadavpur University's Salt Lake ground and CC&FC ground where teams will be playing warm up matches.
