Guv vouches for return of normalcy in Visva-Bharati
Kolkata | Thursday, Oct 29 2009 IST

Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi today urged all concerned to let a semblance of normalcy return to the Gurudev's institution.

'' The breakdown of mutual trust in Santiniketan and the cessation of work and study are a matter of deepest regret. The Acharya of the University - Prime Minister Manmohan Singh - being seized of the situation, we can expect remedial measures, '' the Governor said in a communique issued from Raj Bhawan.

'' I urge all concerned to let Gurudev's institution return to life. Nothing should stand in the way of Santiniketan's tradition of reciprocal confidence and respect. This is the prayerful wish of one for whom the well-being of Visva-Bharati remains an ardent aspiration, '' the communique further elaborated.

Refusing to yield to the pressure of the University, Vice-Chancellor Rajat Kanta Ray said, '' I feel an enquiry must be made to find out the truth behind all the allegations. One should be instituted against me too. '' '' I request seniors like rector Gopalkrishna Gandhi and Acharya Prime Minsiter Manmohan Singh to deal with the situation, '' he added.

Meanwhile, the agitation launched by the Visva-Bharati employees entered the fifth day today with Botany professor Samit Ray threatening to launch an indefinite hunger strike from Friday.

An Executive Council meeting is also scheduled to be held on October 31 here to break the stalemete, sources informed.
