3 members of Zeherkhurani gang held
New Delhi | Tuesday, Oct 27 2009 IST

South District Police have arrested three members of Zeherkhurani (drug and rob) gang, including the kingpin, who were involved in several cases of robberies in Delhi and NCR and recovered stolen items worth lakhs of rupees.

The arrested, who were identified as Amarnath (54), the gang leader, Vinod Kumar (42) and Mukesh Kumar (38), hailed from Faridabad.

Based on an information that some of the members of the gang would be coming near DC office MB road Saket, a trap was laid and all the three were arrested. Talking about their modus operandi, DCP South District H G S Dhaliwal said they used to lure passengers who were waiting for vehicle to go to Railway station or bus terminal.

They would mainly target persons who would go towards Gurgaon, Faridabad, Noida, Sonepat and old and New Delhi railway stations as they are easy targets. ''When someone used to take lift from them, they would stop the vehicle at a predetermined stop for taking cold drink or tea and one of them who acts as a co-passenger would offer cold drink or tea in which he cleverly mixes sedatives,'' he said.

''After the person becoming unconscious they would throw him at a lonely place and ran away with his valuables,'' he added. One laptop, two robbed mobile phones, one gold ring, 40 tablets of Ativan 2mg (used for drugging), two USB data card and one Indica car used in committing crime were seized from their possession.

Their recent victim was one Naresh Kumar resident of Karol Bagh, who works in GAIL as Assistant Manager (HR). He was waiting for a bus to go to Jaipur to attend some official training.

The sedatives given to him were so strong that the victim resumed his consciousness after three days. They disclosed that around 45 such victims have been targetted by them so far.

A case had been registered and investigations were on.
